Slick
http://slick.cokeandcode.com/ Slick2D is a simple set of tools wrapped around the LWJGL OpenGL binding for Java. It's aims are as follows: * Provide a simple 2D API * Make transition from Java2D to OpenGL easier * Enable distribution via WebStart without the complexity * Provide the tools required for most simple games out of the box * Extensible framework for flexibility * Mix and Match - you use what you want, nothing is enforced. * Help with rendering, sound, input, collision and anything else we can think of. |

Gage
Gage GAGE is an engine designed to make developing 2D games in Java easy. Through high performace 2D wrappers, low latency sound handling, tight loop control and other built in features, GAGE will set the stage for Java's future in the gaming industry. Currently, this page is here to provide early access to the GAGE APIs for the purpose of feedback and development. As the APIs reach maturation, a new home will be created for this engine.

Status 29.03.2009:
gamma genuts Java 3D Game SDK jge simplicity were discontinued because of 12 month inactivity. viaje looks pretty close to that as well. If you follow the link to https://games-middleware.dev.java.net/ you'll see that there are not many SDK's left. The best looking Java SDK's seem to be jme and xith. @admins: You should update the sticky thread and throw out all discontinued projects. I wouldn't list any (new) SDK's before any real community exists around those projects. There are simply too many kids/students trying their luck on writing their own engines.

ode4j It's pure Java ands supports almost everything that ODE supports (Open Dynamics Engine - home), except for trimeshes. |
